Steve A. Lemanski, F.S.A. and Elizabeth J. Willard, A.S.A. will present an overview of the Pension Funding Equity Act of 2004 (PFEA), which was enacted into law on April 10. The speakers will discuss the temporary relief provided to defined benefit pension plan sponsors by PFEA with respect to funding requirements, PBGC premiums, and other issues. The discussion will also cover perceived problems facing plan sponsors, and will explore current proposals for providing a long-term solution to these problems.

William W. Bush, III, F.S.A. and Diane Wasser, A.S.A. will present Early Retirement Windows- Rightsizing the Kinder, Gentler Way. Still in a cost cutting mode, employers have used early retirement incentive programs to “rightsize” their workforces in a kinder, gentler way. How does the program affect pension funding and accounting statements? This session will discuss these issues.
